Quick and Easy 4th of July Treat: S'mores Dip

If you wanted a quick, easy, and fun snack for the Fourth of July this year, you may have seen some fun marshmallow related snacks this year. One of the most exciting things I saw scrolling through social media was a s'mores dip. While we did not have a party this year, this dip works well as a party dip or just a festive and fun idea for a Fourth of July snack for little kids (and adults) to make (and eat) together.

What you will need:
1 box of Graham Crackers
A couple packets of Hershey's chocolate*
1 bag of big Marshmallows**
1 pair of kitchen scissors or a large knife
1 glass casserole dish (or any dish you are okay with putting into the oven)
3 colours of sugar crystals for rolling marshmallows in (Red, White, and Blue)
1 bowl of tap water
*We used a big dish so you may need more than just one six pack of the Hershey's chocolate bars depending on the size of dish you use
**We did not use the entire sack, but a decently full sack is best, again, depending on the size of your dish

1. Preheat your oven to 450 degrees Farenhieght,  230 degrees Celsius, or Gas Mark 8.
2. Line the bottom of your casserole dish with Hershey's chocolate bars. It is not necessary to break the bars apart unless you wish to fill in empty spaces on the sides. (We did fill in one more row, but it is not pictured here.) Your chocolate is going to melt so don't be too scared of any empty space that exists.
3. To coat your marshmallows you just lightly dip each side into the bowl of water you should have made. We found that stabbing a toothpick through the marshmallows to roll them in sugar and water was not actually quite as beneficial as we expected so we ended up just using our fingers. WARNING: you most probably will end up dying your fingers various patriotic shades but with a bit of dish soap or a baking soda paste it will come off quickly.

3.5 EXTRA STEP: if you do not have any of the colors of sugar crystals needed at home then here is a quick solution.
WHAT YOU NEED:
1 small bowl of plain granulated sugar
2 food colouring bottles in red and blue, gel or liquid. (If you have gel use a small metal or glass bowl and put some of the gel into the bowl and add a few drops (1/8 to 1/4 tsp of water) and mix these together. This is essentially a way to make liquid food colouring when you only have gel. Not ideal but it is a solution that works in this situation)
What to do:

Put the sugar into two bowls, add some liquid (or liquified gel) food colouring into the sugar (a few drops at a time, or until it is the color or darkness desired).
For this recipe you may want to keep the colors a bit more vibrant (i.e. more food colouring, don't make it pastel).
We also found that either massive chunky sugar granules or extremely find granules worked the best, the middle grounds of either just did not seem to want to stick as well. (I would probably recommend using the finer granules of sugar but both are fine)

4. Once you have your coloured sugar we actually laid out our marshmallows in the dish on top of our chocolate to see how many we would need, something like this:
we ended up using around 31 marshmallows, but we added two at the end to fill space. Realize with this kind of recipe that is always an option, coating more marshmallows isn't an issue, having enough sugar is.  I made about a 1/2 cup of sugar for the blue marshmallows and I had leftover. The red we had pre-made, but you should expect to use a 1/2 cup or more. White was probably a 1/3 cup of sugar. Just to give you an idea of how much you should have.
5. Start cutting your coated marshmallows in half with kitchen scissors or a large knife.
We used kitchen scissors and they worked quite well, but if you do not have any a large sharp knife will do just as well.
6. place these halved marshmallows into your casserole dish. You want to make it patriotic so we went for a flag, however randomly tossing them in would also give a similar vibe. Since we had one extra white marshmallow already made we added some stars in the blue section to seem more authentic.
Ex:

7. Pop these into the oven (that you have preheated) for 8 minutes. We set a timer for four, checked them and then left them in for four more. So if you are uncertain about the way your oven cooks (uneven heating or too hot) adding a halfway point is a good save incase you overcook this festive treat.
8. Enjoy!

I hope this was helpful and that you enjoyed it. If you made these yourself comment down below with a picture of your finished product or share it with me on social media.
